This last couple weeks has been insanely busy at work. Everyone has been rushing to close on their new houses, so the inspections came in fast and furious with short deadlines. Looks like this month’s rush has ended finally and given me an easy Thursday and Friday to close out the week and the month. I’m not going to complain.
My parents dog, Max, won’t be complaining anymore either - at least not about the heat. He had a doggie-doc visit today and came home with a new military style buzz-cut. He’s a 50/50 shephard-husky mix which means he has a thick coat of fur. Not the most comfortable when temperatures are closing in on triple digits.
He’s a little tired from the shots but i’m sure he’ll enjoy being outside much more now.

About 3 months ago I got an invitation from and old high school friend to attend her wedding. It gave me a good excuse to take a week off of work and get some time away. I can’t remember the last time I had a whole week away from work, I know it’s been at least a few years. So I made my plans, scheduled the time off and booked my hotel room. It was nice because it coincided within a week of another friend’s birthday so the stars seemed to align.
I was going to leave early Saturday morning for Baltimore, giving me enough time to meet with people I hadn’t seen in way too long, before the ceremony. As with how everything else goes for me, it turned out to be a mis-alignment of the stars as Thursday evening I had a bit of car trouble. My car, a work in progress, had sat for a couple years and had only recently returned to life where minor electrical problems had been mostly ironed out. I’d enjoyed the car for a few weeks of trouble free driving until that Thursday evening and more than be a real problem I think it may have been a mental problem on my part - not feeling comfortable driving it 600+ miles without sorting out the issue.
So now, it’s Saturday afternoon and rather than be somewhere in North Carolina i’m still at home and won’t be going anywhere. I could have rented a car for the week - but at a great cost, which wasn’t feasable. Needless to say, I’ll be at work on Monday…and I wont be happy about it.
Debbie and Daniel, I wish you two the very best in your marriage and am truely sorry that I wasn’t able to attend.

I had the light on last night in the carport. It always attracts the bugs, which seem to grow pretty large around here. I went outside to toss the smartcans in the recycling when I saw this huge moth sitting on the side of the house. I grabbed my camera and snapped this photo. It’s not as impressive as the full size version I took but that file is almost as huge as Mothra here.

I took these photos yesterday afternoon. Even now that the black widow is dead, just looking at the pictures makes my skin crawl.

This truck pulled up to the front door this afternoon and a man knocked on my door asking me where i’d like my paycheck deposited. And then I woke up sad to see that my pay check wouldn’t fill the shoes of the driver. Oh well…

I finally got a chance to check out the new macbook, live and in person. I was afraid I would hate the keyboard compared to the ibook and my aluminum powerbook, because it really is pretty different from most laptops you see. I tried it out, and I have to say my concerns were unfounded.
I don’t know if I like the glossy screen or not. It is much more vibrant than before, but even in the photo, you can see the lights hanging from the ceiling really clearly.
I didn’t have enough time toying with it to get a feel for how hot it was, but it wasn’t really too bad sitting on the stand (though that may be what it is on the stand in the first place. I’d love a right click trackpad (without having to resort to some kind of ‘trick’ to make it work. Yes, I know CTRL click works but i’m lazy). Come on Steve, suck up your pride and give us a real right click without having to buy that aweful mighty mouse or *gasp* a mouse from microsoft!
In the end, it’s definately a decent machine but i’ll hold off for a few revisions until all the new bugs are worked out with this one.
