Sunshine shines bright

Sunshine

I hadn’t heard about this movie until I caught an episode of The Totally Rad Show.   After their glowing review, I hopped on moviephone.com to find out what time it was showing only to find it was showing only in about 60 theaters throughout the US. Needless to say, none of those theaters were within driving distance of me.

Skip ahead a week and it shows up at my local theater. It was worth the wait! This is such a well-acted unique piece of science fiction that feels so real in a world of over the top space robots and aliens.

Director Danny Boyle doesn’t give you a chance to get settled into your seat as the movie starts and there are no breaks to slink off to the bathroom, so think twice about that extra-super grande soda from the concession stand.

Our sun is dying and the eight crewmembers, starring Cillian Murphy and Chris Evans who are both great, of the Icarus 2 are enroute to toss a big-ass bomb into it with the hope that it’ll work to revive it. The trip takes 7 years and it’s not exactly an excitig trip. That is until they lose touch with earth earlier than expected and a distress call from the first Icarus which launched several years prior but never made it to their destination.

There is a sense of 2001: A Space Odyssey that float to the surface from time to time throughout the first two acts. then something very odd happens. To this point i’m still not exactly sure what the hell was going on at the end - and this last act is the only reason that I can’t give this movie an A+, 5 stars or 2 thumbs up. It’s a solid 4 and a half B’s.

Sofa = soft

Over the last week, I’ve been moving one car load of stuff after at a time to the new house/office. Today was the ‘big’ day as all hands were on deck to help move my bed, couch, etc.

Right now my ass is parked in ‘my spot’ in front of the television half heartedly partaking in some 80’s Steven Segal movie and it feels good. The boxes of dishes are finally tucked away into their new home, my bed is reassembled and even my DVD’s are working on getting used to their new digs.

On the office side of things, there has been a lot of construction through the week as the finishing of the basement was being completed. There are new desks with phone lines and networking all waiting for me come Monday morning.

Tomorrow means cleaning up the old place and transporting the last few little things that are left. I think maybe even make dinner for my family as a thank you. We’ll see.

I’ve seen 2 movies this week

I’ve seen 2 movies this week!  On Sunday I saw Sunshine and on Monday I went to see the Bourne Ultimatum.  I haven’t had a chance to review them here yet due to a tight deadline in moving to a new house and setting up a new office space.   Hopefully within the week!

Your candidate or mine

I ran across this site which may be able to help narrow down your 2008 Presidential candidate. It lists many issues which may be important to you.

Simply mouse over the issue on the left (using Safari, Firefox or Opera but NOT Internet Explorer since it isn’t supported) and select whether or not you support it.  Then at the bottom of the page, click the ‘update total’ to find out which candidates’ views match your own.

How strong is your signal?

Have you ever considered switching to a new cell carrier and wondered how well the new carrier would work in your home or work? Their coverage map for the most part isn’t very helpful but a site I have just run across by the name of Signal Map.

The site is still in Beta. What site isn’t in beta these days? So add your location to the map and if you move or are thinking about switching carriers, take a look.
