Follow up

I called DirecTV back on Friday while at work and was surprised how quickly a real humanoid type person answered.  They went through the satellite signal strength test and when they were getting results that I told them they were going to get scheduled a service tech to come out to the house….On A Sunday Afternoon.  Okay, that’s pretty impressive.  Point them.

I think the guy was out here for at most 5 minutes as he adjusted the dish bringing my HD programming back to life.  Oh and aparently I can’t cancel the sports subscriptions until my 4 month free period is over.  - point them.

So, overall they came out even gaining a point for quick service response once something was finally scheduled but lose that point for their policies regarding programming changes.  At least now I can watch Heroes in HD.

Cable or satellite

When I moved to my new house, I figured that I would switch from Comcast Cable who’s HD signal had been less than ideal to DirecTV as they had a wider range of HD channels for an equivilent cost. I found out why the hard way.

Their service is fucking horrible. I wasn’t around when the service tech showed up for installation. They had no record of the package that I had ordered and so signed me up for the current package they were pushing (4 months free but no listing what the actual cost is when month 5 comes up) which included an expensive football and Nascar sports package.

They make it so easy to order service online and to alter your service except when it comes to cancelling any of their ’sports packages’. You have to call them which will undoubtedly lead to them giving me a hard time about removing anything from my account.

Today, I bite the bullet with some free time and call their number. Great, automated phone system that reacts to what I say. It asks me what they can help me with and I say “service support” and they direct me to options to order new service. I try to back out of the option and get hung up on.

This will be fun.

I call back, and say “change program package” and get directed correctly. I wait on hold for about 30 minutes when it clicks as if to be directed to a real live person! Then the automated voice says “please wait” for another 5 minutes before it disconnects me completely.

I give up for today. DirecTV-1. Tim-0. Fuckers!

Family resemblance?

Is there a purposeful resemblance between the new nano and some classic Apple hardware?

The Real Steve Jobs stands up and talks

Yesterday was what I believe will be referred to as iPod day 2007.

1) Revised shuffles. Check.
2) Short, fat nanos. Check.
3) Big storage ipod ‘classic’. Check.
4) iPhone without the phone (aka the iPod Touch). Check.
5) $200 price drop on the 8Gb iPhone. Check. OUCH.

You didn’t need to be in tune with the force to hear the million voices that suddenly cried out in terror as they stood their with their overpriced iPhone that they’ve had for barely 2 months. It seems that Mr. Mock Turtle Neck himself heard the cries and has offered a peace offering in an open letter to iPhone owners. If you’ve purchased the phone before yesterday - you are eligible for a $100 credit to the apple store. Gee that was nice.

Though you could also return the phone (and pay the $55 restocking fee) and re-buy it for $200 cheaper. Another words, you’d save yourself $150.

Anyone prefer the new “Hardy” nano over the previous “Laurel” nano?

Who knew?

Who knew showering and more importantly, drying off, could be so hazardous!  Got up this morning to get ready for work feeling well rested.  Got out of the shower, grabbed my towel to dry off when a shooting pain that started in my neck and ran partway down my back.  Now, moving my neck in any direction causes pain.  What a great fucking (That should help me get to rated R) way to start the week!

Heat patch things in place as I type….it’s not doing a whole lot besides annoying me.
