Yesterday I got my workbench completed and cleaned up the garage. Of course, today I feel like crap thanks to some kind of cold. Here are some (crappy) photos of the project.

Yesterday I hit the local big box hardware store to pick up 2×4’s, 4×4’s and plywood. The project for post turkey festivities (if i’m not passed out on the couch) is to build an 8′ long workbench.

I wanted to make sure this will be very sturdy, so will use 4×4’s for the legs even though 2×4’s would probably be fine. $69 and some a few hours cutting and screwing (it’s been too long) and I should have something to help keep my garage more organized.

With the health issues of my (step)dad recently - he had surgery on Monday and is back home now - it appears that I will be doing more inspections as an overflow inspector. I’m in my second straight week of doing inspections and while the first few days were a nice change of pace rather than sitting in the office.
In prep for the following days inspections, several pages of maps are printed to keep from getting lost. It’s a big waste of paper at the end of the day, but now i’m considering picking up one of these new Asus Eee PC in combination with a GPS (especially if I can get work to at least cover part of the cost.
The tiny notebook comes with Xandros (a flavor of linux) installed but will run windows. I hate the idea of replacing linux with windows but we use a specific map software for windows only and this device seems like it could be a nice gps device. The flash hard drive isn’t exactly abundant so dual booting would be a waste of space.

Must. Control. Temper.
Must. Not. Murder.
With my (step)dad in the hospital and my mom with him, i’m working the office solo today (also one of our other inspectors happens to be on vacation). So I drew the short straw when it came to dealing with a contractor who isn’t getting all the money he thought he should get.
They can be viscious!
After 45 minutes on the phone arguing discussing our differences, it became abundantly clear that nothing I said was going to do any good. I could barely get a word in edgewise and had to on several instances demand he stop and let me finish my sentence. As much as I hated doing it, I had to call up my (step)dad and have him talk to this guy.
Coincidentally, i’ll be doing inspections tomorrow and Thursday and this guy is wanting another inspection. I may have to run him over. Watch for me on the 5pm news!

Last year around this time my (step)dad was admitted to the hospital after experiencing pain and urinating blood. It turned out to be bladder cancer - but it had not spread and was operable. Over the weekend it started happening again and now he is spending the night at the hospital so that he could get 4 units of blood. He’ll be meeting with his urologist tomorrow.
Yup, it marks the beginning of the holiday season.

I was driving south on route 75 south of Atlanta today, cruising in the far left lane when I spotted a dead animal in the median to my left. It was fairly large and as I passed by, nabbed a pretty good look. Or so I thought, but what it looked like must have been a mistake. I took the next exit and looped around so I could get a second pass. My initial thought was correct…a dead kangeroo!
Now, I couldn’t stop to get up close and personal…but I swear that’s what I saw.

The last time we saw this duo on the big screen was the same year I was graduating high school. Now it’s 10 years later - Moulder and Scully are BACK! Or they will be on December 10th when X-Files 2 begins filming.

Word is that it will not follow in the first film’s footsteps by trying to wade through the deep mythology of the show (in my opinion, a good move given it has been 10 years and the younger age group which might now be interested in this movie were too young when it was out originally). At this moment, the release date has been set for July 25, 2008.
