The other day I was browsing the internets for an item trying to find the cheapest price. It turned out the Circuit City was cheaper than everyone else by at least $15. I drove down to the store and the tag listed a price that was $35 higher than what I had seen online. Of course, there were 3 employees in the store, all grouped together helping an attractive blonde in a short skirt in the car audio section, so I pulled out my Iphone to verify the price I had seen. Typed in www.circuitcity.com and was re-directed to mobile.circuitcity.com - a site that is severly limited. Interestingly, it also listed a different price than the standard web version of the site. I got on their local computer and pulled up the site and verified, that the price I had seen which brought me to the store, had not changed. I decided to make the purchase and went up to the register where the item rang up at the higher ‘in store’ price. I explained that it was cheaper on their website to the <sarcasm> very friendly </sarcasm>lady ringing me up. She told me to hang on a moment and disappeared to go to lunch before confirming the price listed on the website with her manager.
So why would circuit city redirect my iphone’s browser to their mobile site when the phone is perfectly capable of displaying the normal site (best buy doesn’t do this)? I can see no reason except to keep customers from checking the price on their website while in the store.

Must. Control. Temper.
Must. Not. Murder.
With my (step)dad in the hospital and my mom with him, i’m working the office solo today (also one of our other inspectors happens to be on vacation). So I drew the short straw when it came to dealing with a contractor who isn’t getting all the money he thought he should get.
They can be viscious!
After 45 minutes on the phone arguing discussing our differences, it became abundantly clear that nothing I said was going to do any good. I could barely get a word in edgewise and had to on several instances demand he stop and let me finish my sentence. As much as I hated doing it, I had to call up my (step)dad and have him talk to this guy.
Coincidentally, i’ll be doing inspections tomorrow and Thursday and this guy is wanting another inspection. I may have to run him over. Watch for me on the 5pm news!

This is actually from last week but still worth sharing. We inspected this house for the buyer who was going to fix it up and while looking through the photos it became aparent that the previous owner may have had either a fear of germs (ala Howard Hughes) or some other mental ailment. You’ll see what I mean from the photos.

Notice in the first photo, all the nails in the siding - with vinyl siding, that is NOT recommended. Also you can see around the windows (and the 2nd photo) the prior owner’s affinity for caulking.

Another week, another set of lovely house photos. Rather than a cute family of ducks which is not usually the norm, I thought it was only fair to show the ‘lesser’ side of the things we see.

During my typical day at work, I must see 400-500 photos from every angle of a house. Most of them are pretty boring and repetitive. Occassionally something amusing, cute or disturbing shows up. I figured I might as well start sharing them.
